ALEX, OKLAHOMA - On Tuesday, Sept. 12, Abby Pettijohn interviewed to potentially become a national champion. Pettijohn, a member of the Alex FFA Chapter, was chosen as a Top 10 finalist for the National FFA Agriscience Fair after winning her division at the state level. She will find out her final placing on Nov. 3, 2023, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the National FFA Convention.
Pettijohn’s Agriscience Fair project studied how water moves through the soil using deep watering techniques and was part of the Environmental Services and Natural Resource Systems division. She conducted a months-long experiment to better explain the workings of deep watering techniques, then compiled her data to create an extensive report. This report and a research poster were exhibited at the Oklahoma State FFA Agriscience Fair, where she interviewed with a panel of industry professionals. As the state winner from Oklahoma, she then moved on to the national contest.
“As the first person from Alex FFA to participate in this contest, I have been grateful for not only the success but the overwhelming support that I have received,” said Pettijohn. “The Agriscience Fair has allowed me to experience each step of the research process and the skills I have learned will serve me long into my future.”
