Physical Education Teacher/Coach
I attended Alvin ISD in Alvin, Texas and Fletcher Schools and graduated magna cum laude in 1991. I attended Cameron University and then graduated from USAO in 1998.
I actually first sought out a degree in Agribusiness Management and Agriculture Marketing, but ended up completeing a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. I possess certificatioins in the same, as well as Elementary Education.
I have attended numerous professional developements, but the two I am most proud of are sign language and Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute in Williamsburg, Virginia. I have attended numerous Payne Education workshops and coaches clinics.
I joined Alex Public Schools in 2004 after spending 6 years with Anadarko Public Schools. While at Alex I have taught Physical Education, Oklahoma History, 1st Grade, 5th Grade and 6th Grade, self contained, and Reading and Social Studies for 3rd -6th Grade. I am possibly the most field trip-y staff member. I love to take students on educational trips and have taken groups all over the state of Oklahoma and Washington D.C. I have coached basketball and tennis, but am currently the cross country and track coach.
I am married to Jay Otey, long time Alex resident. We have 5 sons, Traycer, Cody, Reese, Jacob and Brycen. They have all attended and graduate Alex Schools. Brycen will graduate with the cless of 2020. I have a bloodhound named Dude.
I love reading and studying history and traveling to see those places. I enjoy traveling to see the bluebonnets and TEXAS in general, the mountains and the beach. I love spending time with my family! I own a local business with my siter-in-law, Holly Otey, Otey Co and The Barn On Main, a boutique and venue. I love small town life!
